Cohost had successfully built a robust runtime server ecosystem supporting 40+ third-party integrations including Mailchimp, SendGrid, Dice.fm, Klaviyo, Stripe, and dozens more. However, event organizers still faced a critical usability challenge: accessing and acting on data spread across these platforms required navigating multiple interfaces, understanding different APIs, and manually orchestrating complex operations.

How do you choose the right AI model for each task?

We designed and built Plover as a sophisticated AI agent that fundamentally reimagines how event organizers interact with their data and integrated platforms. Rather than building a simple chatbot wrapper around APIs, we created an intelligent reasoning engine that truly understands the event management domain.

Multi-Model Architecture: The Right AI for Each Task

Enterprise-Grade Security and Privacy

The most critical innovation in Plover’s architecture is how it maintains enterprise security while leveraging powerful AI models. Simply sending customer data to third-party AI APIs would violate privacy regulations and expose sensitive information. Plover solves this through a sophisticated data protection framework.

PII Abstraction Layer: Before any data reaches AI models, Plover strips personally identifiable information and replaces it with anonymous tokens. How do you build a multi-model AI agent from concept to production?

Platform Abstraction and Knowledge Graph

Entity Normalization: The graph maintains equivalence mappings between entities across platforms. It knows that Cohost’s buyer_email field corresponds to Mailchimp’s email_address field and Stripe’s customer.email field. These mappings are more than simple field name translations—they include data format conversions, normalization rules, and confidence scores.

Relationship Inference: Beyond direct mappings, the graph infers relationships. If a Cohost buyer has the same email as a Mailchimp contact, they’re likely the same person. The system builds these connections automatically as data flows through the platform, continuously strengthening the knowledge graph.

Semantic Query Translation: When translating natural language queries into database operations across multiple platforms, the abstraction layer generates optimized query plans. It determines which platforms need to be queried, in what order, and how to join results. Queries are pushed down to the appropriate platforms in their native query languages (SQL, REST API filters, GraphQL queries) to minimize data transfer.

Schema Evolution Handling: Third-party APIs change over time. The abstraction layer monitors for schema changes in integrated platforms and automatically adapts. When a field is renamed or deprecated, the mapping layer updates transparently so queries continue working without user intervention.

PII Protection and Security Architecture

The security architecture operates on the principle that sensitive data should be protected at every layer, with no single point of failure.

Tokenization System: The PII abstraction layer uses format-preserving tokenization where possible. Email addresses become email-formatted tokens (user123@token.local), phone numbers maintain phone number format, names remain name-like strings. This preserves the AI model’s ability to understand data types and relationships while protecting actual identities.

Tokens are cryptographically secure and one-way without the master key. Even if token mappings were exposed, they couldn’t be reversed to reveal actual PII. The mapping database is encrypted at rest and requires multiple authentication factors to access.

Context-Aware Classification: Not all data has the same sensitivity in all contexts. The classification system considers:

  • Query context and purpose
  • Regulatory requirements for this customer’s jurisdiction

A field might be classified as sensitive in one context but safe in another. Event names are generally public, but for private corporate events they’re classified as confidential.

Differential Privacy for Analytics: When Plover generates aggregate analytics, it applies differential privacy techniques to prevent reverse-engineering individual records from aggregate statistics.
